This offense, under Sections 221 and 222 of the Plateau State Penal Code, carries the death sentence.
The incident took place in July 2021, when Ude was still enrolled at the technical school in Jos South Local Government Area.
According to court records, Mr. Dashe, who was serving as Duty Master, asked Ude to open his food flask during a routine check in the school dining hall, suspecting a breach of school food rules. Ude refused and walked out.
He later returned from the dormitory with a knife and stabbed the teacher in the chest before fleeing. Mr. Dashe was taken to a nearby hospital on Vom Road, where he was declared dead.
Police arrested Ude a few days later. Investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department said he admitted to the act, and his confession became a central piece of evidence during the proceedings.
Prosecutors Nansil Mbah and Solomon Deme, representing the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, argued that the attack was intentional and planned. They presented their case over nearly four years.
Ude’s defense lawyer, Josil Drinkat, asked the court for mercy, pointing to his client’s remorse. However, Justice Bakfur ruled that the law must be upheld.
“The prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The hands of the court are tied; I can only do what the law prescribes in such a situation,” the judge ruled.
Ude was consequently sentenced to death by hanging, to be carried out until he is certified dead.
