Exercises Hypertension
  • Some exercises can dangerously raise blood pressure in people with hypertension.
  • Sprinting and heavy weightlifting put excessive strain on the heart and arteries.
  • Safer alternatives include walking, swimming, and dancing for better heart health.

Regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of hypertension.

EDITOR’S PICKS

EKO HOT BLOG reports that however, not all exercises are suitable for individuals with high blood pressure, as some may place excessive strain on the heart and blood vessels.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, here are two exercises that people with hypertension should avoid:

1. Sprinting

Sprinting involves intense bursts of speed and energy, which can rapidly increase blood pressure and put excessive strain on the heart and arteries. Experts advise individuals with hypertension to avoid this high-intensity activity, as it may lead to cardiovascular complications.

2. Weightlifting

Heavy weightlifting involves quick, forceful movements that can cause a sudden spike in blood pressure. The Cleveland Clinic warns that lifting heavy weights can overload the heart, making it dangerous for people with high blood pressure. If strength training is necessary, it should be done with light weights and controlled breathing techniques.

Safer Exercise Alternatives

Instead of high-intensity workouts, individuals with hypertension should opt for moderate aerobic exercises like walking, swimming, dancing, or light jogging. These activities help improve heart health without putting excessive stress on the cardiovascular system. However, it is important to consult a doctor before starting any exercise routine.
