EKO HOT BLOG reports that the authority said the closure will last for about 22 months as part of a comprehensive upgrade aimed at improving passenger handling capacity and modernising facilities at the airport.
During the period, international departure operations will be moved to a temporary terminal covering about 8,000 square metres. The facility is nearing completion and will initially accommodate operations for between five and six international airlines.
FAAN advised passengers to arrive earlier than usual during the transition, noting that airlines will gradually relocate to the temporary departure hall.
International arrivals and cargo services will continue to operate from other sections of the airport while construction works are ongoing.
The upgrade project also includes the construction of a skywalk linking Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, expansion of apron space to support wide body aircraft, and significant improvements to the airport road network.

FAAN said the works are designed to boost capacity, enhance safety standards and deliver a smoother travel experience at one of Nigeria’s busiest international airports.
