Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared that the North will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, insisting there is no credible alternative for the region
Eko Hot Blog reports that Ganduje made the statement on Friday in Abuja while receiving a delegation of Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders drawn from the 19 northern states, who paid him a courtesy visit and honoured him as the forum’s patron.

According to the former governor, Nigeria is fortunate to have Tinubu as president, describing him as a seasoned politician whose life and career have been deeply rooted in politics and national unity.

His remarks come amid growing claims by some northern stakeholders that the current administration favours the South.
Although President Tinubu has consistently dismissed such allegations, citing official records showing stronger northern representation in key appointments, scepticism persists among a section of the region.
Addressing the concerns, Ganduje said it would be a mistake for anyone to assume that the North would back another candidate in 2027.

“Those thinking that the North will vote for someone other than Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 are seriously mistaken,” he said.
Ganduje described Tinubu as a leader who sacrificed for Nigeria’s democracy, recalling his role during the pro-democracy struggle and his period in exile.
He stressed that no other southern politician currently matches Tinubu’s experience and commitment to national cohesion.
He also noted that power rotation arrangements reached before the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s election clearly anticipated a southern successor after Buhari’s eight-year tenure.
Speaking on Tinubu’s performance so far, Ganduje said the president has demonstrated courage through difficult but necessary economic reforms aimed at long-term national development.

He cited the removal of fuel subsidy as a landmark decision previous administrations promised but failed to execute, noting that the policy has boosted revenue available to state governments across party lines.
“The president did not remove subsidy to favour APC governors; he did it for Nigeria. Today, governors are receiving more funds to develop their states, regardless of political affiliation,” Ganduje said.
He assured the youth leaders of his continued support and commended their commitment to mobilising support and raising funds ahead of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“There is no greater commitment than what you are doing — contributing your resources, your ideas, your time and your energy to ensure Asiwaju’s return in 2027,” he added.

Earlier, the National Leader of the Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders, Murtala Gamji, described Ganduje as a mentor and role model, crediting him with helping to shape his leadership journey.
Gamji said the group had unanimously resolved to mobilise youths across the 19 northern states in support of Tinubu’s re-election and to raise funds for the purchase of his nomination form.
“We are doing this because the claim that the North will not support Asiwaju in 2027 is false. No leader has supported northern youths the way Bola Ahmed Tinubu has,” he said.
