The spirit of faith, unity, and cultural pride was on full display as the 2026 Kayokayo Festival Qur’anic and Quiz Competition brought together contestants, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents in a remarkable celebration of Islam and the rich heritage of Epe Kingdom.

The event also reaffirmed Epe’s historic recognition as the cradle of Islam in Lagos State.
Representatives from the six wards demonstrated exceptional knowledge in Qur’anic recitation and Islamic studies, impressing judges and spectators with their outstanding performances throughout the keenly contested competition.
At the end of the contest, Oke-Balogun Ward emerged as the overall winner, earning applause and jubilant celebrations from supporters, fellow contestants, and members of the community.
Also speaking at the event, the Oba Abiola Kosoko highlighted the traditional and religious significance of the Kayokayo Festival, describing it as a unique celebration that embodies the history, culture, and Islamic heritage of Epe Kingdom.
He explained that the festival commemorates the arrival of King Kosoko in Epe and the propagation of Islam, noting that it has remained a symbol of gratitude to Allah, peaceful coexistence, and the preservation of the customs and traditions handed down by the kingdom’s forebears.
“Kayokayo is not just a festival; it is a celebration of our history, our faith, and our identity. It reminds us of our roots and the importance of preserving our cultural heritage while strengthening our relationship with Allah and living together in peace,” he said.
Oba Abiola Kosoko further encouraged the younger generation to embrace the values and history behind the festival, stressing that protecting the kingdom’s cultural and religious heritage would ensure continued peace, unity, and development in Epe.
Despite a heavy downpour, the event witnessed an impressive turnout as participants and guests remained committed to celebrating the values of faith, learning, unity, and communal harmony that the Kayokayo Festival represents.
