A 32-year-old trader and mother of three, Oluwatoyin Ibikunle, has petitioned an Akure Customary Court to dissolve her 15-year marriage to Ayodeji Ibikunle, citing physical abuse and neglect.

Oluwatoyin told the court her husband had turned her into a “punching bag,” making her life unbearable.
“He’s irresponsible and keeps threatening my life. I can’t take it anymore,” she stated, adding that Ayodeji had publicly humiliated and harassed her on multiple occasions.
The petitioner also disclosed a shocking allegation against her father-in-law, who, she claimed, advised her to leave the marriage and offered her ₦50,000 in exchange for an affair.
“My father-in-law proposed to me and offered me money while I was dealing with my husband’s constant abuse,” she alleged.
Oluwatoyin further revealed that her husband had abandoned his responsibilities, leaving her to shoulder the family’s financial burdens.
She recounted how Ayodeji asked her to leave their home, claiming he wanted to renovate it. “I moved out deliberately because I couldn’t endure his beatings anymore,” she said.
The petitioner requested custody of their children, emphasizing her desire to provide them with a stable upbringing. “The love is gone. I want custody of my children to give them a proper upbringing,” Oluwatoyin pleaded.
In his defense, Ayodeji denied the abuse allegations and accused Oluwatoyin of prioritizing her business and relationships over their family.
“My wife left our home and rented an apartment. I tried to reconcile with her, but she refused unless I refunded the rent she paid. I can’t live without her,” he said.
