EKO HOT BLOG reports that the appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Daura was described as a seasoned civil servant with over 30 years of experience in the Federal Capital Territory Administration Protocol Department. He was appointed Director of the FCT Protocol Department in 2019.
According to the statement, Daura is scheduled to retire from the civil service on January 24, 2026, and his new appointment will take effect immediately after his retirement.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has upheld the exclusion of Labour Party candidates from the forthcoming Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory, scheduled for February 21.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, refused to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to accept and publish the list of candidates submitted by the Labour Party for the elections.
The court dismissed the suit marked FHC ABJ CS 2110 2025, filed by the Labour Party and its candidates against INEC, on the grounds that it was statute barred.
Justice Lifu held that the matter qualified as a pre election case under the 1999 Constitution as amended and was not filed within the time allowed by law.
According to the court, although the suit was filed on October 7, 2025, the cause of action arose on October 22, 2025, when INEC excluded the Labour Party candidates from the election process.

The judge ruled that the delay stripped the court of jurisdiction to entertain the matter, thereby affirming INEC’s decision ahead of the polls.
