Eko Hot Blog reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has unequivocally stated that the Federal Government will not tolerate any form of bandit attack in Abuja.
He made this declaration on Wednesday during a town hall meeting with residents of the Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
This town hall meeting was convened in response to the escalating reports of kidnapping for ransom and killings in the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike, who met with heads of security agencies, FCT Administration officials, and Area Council Chairmen on Tuesday, emphasized the seriousness with which the administration views the security situation in the territory.
At the town hall meeting, Minister Wike revealed that President Bola Tinubu had instructed him to provide all necessary support to security agencies, emphasizing that it would no longer be “business as usual.”
Wike stated,
- “Security is one of the key priorities of Mr. President’s administration… It is no longer going to be business as usual.
- Everything has to be done to protect lives and property. Without protection of lives and property, then we have no business in government.”
He assured the residents that the government would take decisive actions against criminals and bandits, and President Tinubu approved the provision of all required resources to the security agencies.
Wike emphasized that the Federal Government is determined to prevent the recurrence of attacks in the area.
In response to the security challenges, the Chairman of the Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya, highlighted the unique difficulties posed by the Council’s large size and challenging terrain.
He requested logistical support for security agencies, including vehicles and motorcycles for effective patrol and surveillance in each district.
Additionally, Gabaya appealed for training and retraining of hunters and villagers engaged in local security.
The commitment expressed by Minister Nyesom Wike and the collaborative efforts with security agencies underscores the government’s resolve to address the security concerns and safeguard the lives and property of residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
