Lagos, Nigeria – In a bid to equip Nigerian youths with relevant digital skills and bridge the gap in the nation’s tech industry, the Federal Government (FG) has unveiled plans to establish skill acquisition centers in Lagos, EkoHotBlog can exclusively report.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, aims to provide hands-on training in various technological fields, including phone repairs, app development, web design, and software applications.

During a recent visit to Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr. Alausa inspected ongoing training sessions at the STC Center, where approximately 100 students are currently being taught phone repairs and application design.

The Minister, visibly impressed by the hands-on approach, interacted with the trainees and provided words of encouragement.

As part of the FG’s commitment to youth empowerment, Dr. Alausa revealed that funds have already been released for the establishment of additional skill acquisition centers across Lagos.

One of these centers will be housed within YABATECH to build on the existing programs. “This government is committed to ensuring Nigerian youths are well-prepared for the evolving digital age, and this initiative is designed to fill the vacant two million jobs in the tech sector,” he stated.

EkoHotBlog reports that the Minister further disclosed that students enrolled in the program will receive stipends and be placed on an entrepreneurial pathway to put their skills to practical use.

He also visited a dedicated women’s tech development center, where female students are being trained in web design and software applications. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, Dr. Alausa assured that the FG is determined to create opportunities for women in the digital space.
