Dr. Adedeji underscored the critical role of research and data in navigating Nigeria’s complex economic landscape. He urged all FIRS departments to integrate research findings into their work, emphasizing that evidence-based decision-making is essential for building a smarter and more accountable tax system.
The event saw the launch of three key tools: the FIRS Research Policy Document, which outlines ethical and methodological standards for all research; the Tax Revenue Statistical Bulletin, a comprehensive publication featuring tax data trends from 1970 to 2022; and the fourth volume of the FIRS Journal of Tax Studies (FJTS). To improve accessibility, a digital platform for the journal, www.fjts.online, was also unveiled.
Halima M. Shehu, Director of the Research and Statistics Department, hailed the event as a “new beginning,” reinforcing the idea that research and reliable data are the cornerstones of a modern, effective tax system.
