EKO HOT BLOG reports that the initiative, carried out under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, is part of the Women Economic Empowerment Programme titled “Provision of Small Business Recapitalisation Grant to 500 women across 36 States and FCT.”
The beneficiaries, drawn from all 17 local government areas of Enugu State, were selected through the office of the state’s First Lady, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah.
Speaking at the event, Senator Tinubu, represented by Mrs. Mbah, said the intervention was designed to uplift hardworking women traders and entrepreneurs who remain committed to supporting their families, educating their children, and contributing to their communities.
“This is not a loan. It is a grant and a seed of renewed hope to help you recapitalise your existing businesses,” she said. “It is my firm belief that when you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed a nation.”
The First Lady praised the Tony Elumelu Foundation for donating N1 billion to the RHI programme, which will directly benefit 18,500 women across Nigeria. She added that 500 women in each of the 36 states and the FCT would receive N50,000 each to recapitalise their businesses.
At the Enugu event, some of the pre-selected beneficiaries were presented with their grants. Expressing gratitude, a recipient, Mrs. Theresa Agor from Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, said the intervention came at the right time. “My heart is filled with joy with this support. May God bless the President’s wife and the Elumelu Foundation for this kind gesture,” she said.
Senator Tinubu also extended appreciation to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and his wife, Nkechinyere, for their collaboration in executing RHI programmes.
This comes just weeks after she made a similar donation in Nasarawa State, where 500 less-privileged women from across 13 local government areas received N50,000 each to improve their businesses and livelihoods.
