The funeral service, scheduled for 2:30 pm at the iconic Sainte-Clotilde Basilica in Paris, is expected to bring together an extraordinary gathering of elite figures from the upper echelons of European politics, international diplomacy, and the global entertainment industry.
The guest list for the 650-seat basilica features some of France’s most prominent contemporary figures. Current French First Lady Brigitte Macron will lead the state delegation, alongside former French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande.
Sarkozy will be accompanied by his wife, the internationally acclaimed model and singer Carla Bruni. Representing the current administration on the frontlines of the service will be French Defence Minister Catherine Vautrin.
According to the late First Lady’s daughter, Claude Chirac, a portion of the basilica will be intentionally reserved for members of the general public, with giant screens broadcasting the mass to thousands of mourners expected to gather outside the cathedral gates.
The choice of the Sainte-Clotilde Basilica carries deep, profound emotional weight for the Chirac dynasty.
It was in the adjacent Sainte-Clotilde Chapel that Bernadette and Jacques Chirac were originally wed, marking the beginning of a powerful political partnership that eventually took them to the Elysee Palace.
The sacred venue also hosted the tragic funeral of the couple’s eldest daughter, Laurence, who passed away in 2016.
Bernadette was widely revered across France not just as a presidential spouse, but as a formidable grassroots politician in her own right.

For decades, she served as a long-time elected councillor for the rural department of Corrèze and sat on the municipal council of the small village of Sarran, cementing a fierce reputation for championing rural communities and funding massive medical charities.
The ancestral region of Corrèze is scheduled to hold an independent, localized tribute for the late stateswoman on Sunday.
Highlighting her deep roots in the territory, regional councillors from Corrèze will travel to Paris to personally serve as pallbearers, carrying her coffin into the Basilica of Saint-Clotilde.
Following the conclusion of the public state service and religious honors, Bernadette Chirac will be escorted by a security motorcade to the Montparnasse Cemetery in the capital city.
There, she will be permanently interred in the private family plot, reunited with her husband and daughter, closing a definitive chapter in modern French political history.
