Turkish champions Galatasaray have reportedly turned to compatriot influence in their bid to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman, asking fellow Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to help persuade him to join the Istanbul club.
According to Turkish media outlet Fotomac, Galatasaray have identified Lookman, currently at Atlético Madrid, as a key transfer target ahead of the new season and are hoping Osimhen’s close relationship with the player could influence his decision, Eko Hot Blog gathered.

Lookman has been one of Atlético Madrid’s standout performers since his €35m move from Atalanta during the January transfer window, registering five goals and four assists in 24 appearances.
His contributions were crucial in helping the club reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey final.

However, the Spanish side are reportedly reluctant to consider any departure, given the importance of the forward to Diego Simeone’s squad and ongoing squad changes involving other key players.
Galatasaray’s approach highlights both the ambition and difficulty of the deal, with financial constraints also posing a major hurdle. Lookman’s wages in Spain are significantly higher than what the Turkish champions typically pay, outside of Osimhen’s own high-profile contract.
Osimhen’s presence at Galatasaray has strengthened the club’s Nigerian connection, following his loan spell in the 2024/25 season and subsequent permanent move.

His positive relationship with both the club and its supporters is seen as a potential advantage in their recruitment strategy.
Lookman has previously attracted interest from several European clubs, including Inter Milan and Fenerbahçe, but a move to Istanbul remains uncertain as negotiations would require both a major financial package and Atlético Madrid’s approval.
For now, Galatasaray’s hopes appear to rest on a combination of strategic persuasion and Osimhen’s influence as they attempt to pull off one of the window’s most challenging transfers.
