Abdullahi Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending a turbulent tenure that lasted less than a year. His abrupt exit, which took effect on Friday, comes amid growing speculations that President Bola Tinubu is actively working to bring Ganduje’s longtime rival, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, into the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Insiders at the APC national secretariat revealed to The Cable that Tinubu’s strategic move to reconcile with Kwankwaso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is a major reason behind Ganduje’s resignation.
“Between me and you, it is true, but I can’t confirm officially, and please don’t quote me,” a senior APC official at the party headquarters disclosed.
Party sources said one of the national vice chairmen is expected to assume the role of acting chairman until the APC’s national convention in December.
Interestingly, Ganduje’s resignation came just hours after he led a condolence delegation to Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, following the devastating flood in Mokwa and persistent banditry in the region.
Appointed in August 2023, Ganduje’s short stint as APC chairman was marred by legal challenges, internal power struggles, and deepening divisions within the party, particularly in Kano State where his fierce rivalry with Kwankwaso remained unresolved.
Though Ganduje reportedly cited health concerns, he was actively involved in public events as recently as Thursday, participating in the second quarterly consultative meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and political parties in Abuja.

With Ganduje’s exit, all political eyes now turn to Kwankwaso, a dominant force in northern politics whose potential defection to the APC could significantly reshape the 2027 election landscape, especially in Kano State.
