Mr Disu made this known in an exclusive interview with Eko Hot Blog at the annual Ramadan lecture held by the Unified Local Government Muslim Staff Association, Onigbongbo Branch.
“Zakat is a very important pillar of Islam, and it has a very high significance in Islam, if we should endeavour to carry it out, the vices in our society will be reduced drastically,” he said.
“The key point for me is that Zakat is not our money, it is the right of those who are qualified for it. If one has up to the qualified amount, it is mandatory to give Zakat from it, and if we do that, our wealth will multiply.”
In response to the hardship in the country, Mr Disu urged everyone to be prayerful and patient as the leaders are trying their best.
He also noted that the government cannot employ everyone at the same time, hence the need for people to learn to be self-employed.
“There is an outcry that food is expensive and a bag of rice is now sold for 80-90 thousand naira, but this serves as an incentive for us to go to farm, sell produce and make money,” he further stated.
