The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, has convened a high-level peace and security meeting with critical stakeholders as part of efforts to strengthen security and address emerging concerns across the local government area.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting brought together traditional rulers, members of the Association of Hotel Owners, Community Development Associations (CDAs), school proprietors, community leaders, and residents.
Also in attendance were top security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC).
Addressing participants, Hon. Olowa appreciated stakeholders for their continued commitment to the peace, stability, and development of Ibeju-Lekki. He emphasized the importance of collective vigilance, especially in view of recent concerns and reports about unfamiliar faces within some communities.
According to him, maintaining security requires cooperation between government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and residents.
“We must all be security conscious. If you see something suspicious, please do not take the law into your own hands. Report immediately to the nearest security agency,” Olowa stated.
The council chairman also urged hotel owners to maintain proper documentation and records of guests to support security monitoring, intelligence gathering, and effective profiling when necessary.
Lending his voice to the discussion, the Onibeju of Ibeju Kingdom, Oba Waliu Olasunkanmi Oguntolu, called on residents to remain vigilant and pay close attention to activities within their communities. He commended security agencies for their dedication and encouraged them to sustain their efforts in maintaining law and order.
Also speaking, Lt. Col. Samson Enye, Commanding Officer of Epe Barracks, assured residents that security personnel remain committed to protecting lives and property.
“We are not resting on our oars. Our men work day and night to ensure the safety of residents. However, we appeal to the public to be cautious in the use of social media so as not to spread unverified information that can cause panic,” he said.
Representatives of the DSS, Police, NSCDC, and LNSC equally reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with community stakeholders and strengthening intelligence-sharing mechanisms across the local government.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to sustain peace, improve community-security relations, and strengthen collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and property throughout Ibeju-Lekki.
