Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has extended a warm welcome to several influential politicians who have moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Among the prominent figures making this switch are Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, who previously ran for governorship with APM and was a deputy governorship candidate for PDP in 2023, and Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, the immediate past chairman of the PDP in Ogun State, EKO HOT BLOG reports.

Governor Abiodun assured the new members that they would be fully integrated into the APC, promising them all the rights, privileges, and respect afforded to existing members. He seized the opportunity to describe the PDP as an “empty shell” and a “sinking ship,” noting that it has been experiencing a wave of defections across Nigeria.

The Governor expressed his happiness that Akinlade and others had chosen to join the “progressive team” of the APC. He also encouraged current APC members across all 236 towards and the state working committee to embrace and collaborate with the new entrants.
In his remarks, Hon. Akinlade stated that their decision to return to the APC was driven by a commitment to contribute to the development of Ogun State and the nation. He emphasized that their move was a comprehensive “movement” with no one left behind, and that they had joined the party from the grassroots up, not just from the top. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his dignified reception and for treating them with respect.
Similarly, Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele highlighted that their decision followed a careful evaluation of the accomplishments of Governor Abiodun in Ogun State and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level. He asserted that this mass movement of “responsible PDP members” from all 236 wards in Ogun State into the APC would yield positive outcomes for the ruling party.

Another defector, Hon. Luqmon Atobatele, a serving member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, praised Governor Abiodun’s inclusive leadership, which he said recognized and supported even opposition members.
This political shift is seen as strengthening the APC’s hold in Ogun State as the next election cycle approaches.
