Governors Of South-West States To Donate 100 Vehicles For Regional Patrol
The governors of the five south-west states have agreed to donate 100 vehicles for the purpose of boarder patrol among the states.
The governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun revealed this in a press statement on Monday.
Abiodun noted that the joint patrol team was aimed at promoting security within the southwest region. Adding that each state has offered to donate 20 vehicles each.
The governor was quoted to have said this at a stakeholders’ dinner/fundraiser organised by the Ogun State Security Trust Fund Board on Sunday.
It was also said that Ogun state had raised N1bn at the event.
Abiodun also revealed that the security outfit would be called Amotekun
The governor said “In conjunction with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria Commission, the five South-West states have agreed to set up a joint patrol team that will be called Amotekun.
“Each of the states is required to donate at least 20 patrol vehicles, communication equipment and personnel to the task force. The personnel will be recruited from the police, army, vigilance groups and hunters.”
Abiodun lamented lack of communication equipment among security agencies.
“It is shameful that our security agencies do not have a communications system or equipment within the state, meaning that the Commissioner of Police cannot speak with his counterparts in the military, Department of State Services or worse still, he cannot speak with his Area commander, Divisional Police Officers of police stations across the state. Their vehicles are not functioning very well; no tracking devices, no enough finance; so, we are looking at correcting those anomalies with our security trust fund,” he said.
