Grammys to Proceed as Planned Amid Los Angeles Wildfire Tragedy

The 67th annual Grammy Awards will take place as scheduled on February 2, despite the devastating wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles, the Recording Academy confirmed.

In a letter to Academy members, CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and Board of Trustees chair Tammy Hurt assured that the event at the Crypto.com Arena in downtown LA would be held with safety as a top priority.

“This year’s show will carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising funds for wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery of first responders,” the letter stated.

The fires, driven by extreme winds, have caused widespread destruction, claiming at least 24 lives, displacing tens of thousands, and leaving parts of Southern California in ruins.

Despite the chaos, the Grammys will serve as both a celebration of music and a platform to highlight the resilience of the Los Angeles community.

Top nominees for the gala, which will air on CBS, include Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick Lamar.

The Recording Academy and its philanthropic arm, MusiCares, have already launched a relief fund, pledging $1 million and raising over $2 million in emergency aid for affected music industry workers.

In a separate initiative, LiveNation, AEG Presents, and the Azoff Company announced a FIREAID benefit concert on January 30 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

Proceeds will support rebuilding infrastructure, aiding displaced families, and advancing fire prevention strategies.

The broader entertainment industry is grappling with the impact of the fires during award season.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which oversees the Oscars, canceled its nominees’ luncheon and moved its nominations announcement online.

The Recording Academy vowed to ensure the Grammys amplify the spirit of resilience while addressing the ongoing crisis. “The artistry and achievements of our music community will shine brighter as we honor the city’s courage,” Mason and Hurt said.
