Tragedy struck the Federal Polytechnic Oko in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State on the night of June 19, 2025, when armed assailants launched a surprise attack, resulting in the deaths of two individuals, the abduction of two others, and injuries to four people.
Eko Hot Blog reports that witnesses said the attackers arrived in a black, unregistered Lexus 350 SUV and on a motorcycle. They began shooting randomly at key locations in the town, including Total Junction and Tipper Junction, triggering fear and confusion among students and local residents.

Two people lost their lives in the attack, while four others suffered various injuries. A female victim is currently being treated in a nearby hospital.
During the commotion at Tipper Junction, two individuals were reportedly kidnapped.
In response to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command deployed security forces to stabilize the area. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the event and assured the public that an investigation is underway.
“We managed to rescue two individuals, including an injured woman,” Ikenga stated. “Sadly, two lives were lost, and two people are believed to have been taken by the attackers.”

He further explained that a coordinated security effort—led by the Aguata Area Commander and involving personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilantes—has been launched to secure the community and pursue those responsible.
“The police are following actionable intelligence and eyewitness reports to track down the suspects,” Ikenga added. “We ask residents to stay calm and support the investigation with any useful information.”
Though the motive behind the assault has not yet been confirmed, authorities are exploring the possibility of cult-related involvement. The police have appealed to the public to assist in the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
