Gunmen who abducted a medical doctor, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, and his brother, Abu Tahir, in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, have reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦200 million for their release.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the victims were kidnapped on January 1, 2026, along City Pride Road in the Igbira Camp area of Auchi.

A source close to the family, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the abductors established contact with the victims’ relatives on Saturday and demanded the ₦200 million ransom as a condition for their freedom.

According to the source, negotiations are currently ongoing between the family and the kidnappers, with efforts focused on reducing the ransom demand.
When contacted for confirmation, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said she was not aware of the ransom demand at the time of inquiry.
The incident has further heightened concerns over rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in parts of Edo State.
