Kamala Harris has conducted her first solo interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee nearly two months ago.

The US vice-president sat down with a local ABC News station in Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state, to discuss pressing issues like the economy, gun control, and political vulnerabilities.

During the 11-minute interview, Harris outlined her plans to boost small businesses and first-time homebuyers, proposing a $50,000 tax deduction and a $25,000 down payment assistance.

While the price tag and eligibility criteria remain unclear, her commitment to addressing economic concerns is evident.

On gun control, Harris reiterated her support for constitutional gun rights while advocating for a semi-automatic weapons ban.

“I feel very strongly that it is consistent with the Second Amendment and your right to own a gun to also say we need an assault weapons ban,” she emphasized. “They’re literally tools of war.”

In a subtle jab at her Republican rival, Donald Trump, Harris stressed the need for a leader who can unite the country, rather than perpetuating division.

“The American people need someone to bring the country together,” she said.

When asked about her differences from President Joe Biden, Harris reaffirmed her commitment to offering a new generation of leadership.

“I am obviously not Joe Biden,” she stated.

Trump responded to the interview, claiming Harris had a difficult time answering questions and dismissing the conversation as “a world salad, a real mess!” Despite this, Harris’ campaign received a boost from opinion polls suggesting she won her first debate with Trump.

As the presidential race heats up, Harris’ solo interview offers a glimpse into her vision for the White House and her determination to address the nation’s pressing issues.
