Speaker Abbas Tajudeen will lead an ad-hoc committee dedicated to mediating the interface between the two sides. The House also called for establishing a permanent joint consultative platform to ensure continuous engagement and prevent future strikes.

Whingan expressed deep concern over ASUU’s declaration of a two-week warning strike regarding unresolved issues, including university autonomy, salary structure, revitalization funding, and earned academic allowances.
He cautioned that these initial warning strikes historically escalate into prolonged shutdowns, severely disrupting academic calendars, derailing research, and frustrating students, parents, and lecturers.

Whingan emphasized that the university system is vital for national development and human-capital growth, arguing that disruptions weaken Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.
He stressed that both the government and the unions share the responsibility to safeguard the quality and continuity of education.
He ultimately urged the Federal Government and ASUU to return to the dialogue table with mutual respect and good faith, utilizing the National Assembly as a neutral facilitator for the sake of the nation.
