EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during his ceremonial pull-out parade in Abuja on Friday, October 31, 2025, Musa expressed pride in his military journey and contributions to national security.
“As I hang my uniform today, I do so with a clear conscience, knowing that I gave my all,” Musa said, drawing applause from officers, dignitaries, and guests present at the event. “I leave with cherished memories of camaraderie, of battles fought and triumphs celebrated as one family. The sound of the bugle may change for me, but the soldier’s heart beats on forever.”
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving him the privilege to serve as Chief of Defence Staff, describing it as a rare honour. “I may be retiring from active military service today, but not from my love for our dear country. I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot ever loyal to the constitution and sovereignty of Nigeria,” he said.
Appointed on June 19, 2023, as part of President Tinubu’s military leadership overhaul, General Musa’s tenure witnessed major joint operations against insurgents, bandits, and oil thieves, as well as strengthened collaboration between the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s security challenges, Musa emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies, stressing that no single institution can win the war against insecurity alone. “We must synergise, collaborate, and fight together. I appeal to Nigerians to pray for our troops and support our security forces. Together, we shall succeed,” he urged.
The retired General also expressed appreciation to his family, describing them as “unsung heroes” for enduring long periods of absence and sacrifice during his years of service. He further thanked the media and other security agencies for their cooperation, which he said contributed to improved national security operations.
General Musa congratulated his successor, General Olufemi Oluyede, who officially assumed office as the new Chief of Defence Staff on Thursday, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the military effectively.
As the ceremony concluded, Musa saluted the troops for the final time before being driven off in a ceremonial vehicle, marking the end of his distinguished military career. “The sound of the bugle may change for me,” he said, “but the soldier’s heart beats on forever.”
