Court N10m Bail Protesters
The Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has directed that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served to Safiyat, a woman whose husband, Hamzat (surname withheld), brought before the court.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that Hamzat accused his wife of being stubborn, troublesome, and frequently fighting with him. He also alleged that Safiyat was involved in diabolic activities.
Hamzat explained that his wife, with the help of her mother, attempted to manipulate him. He claimed that Safiyat had washed her private parts and used the water to cook his food.
He further accused her of stealing his money and valuable items from their home, stating that her actions had nearly ruined his life. Hamzat requested the dissolution of their marriage and sought an order prohibiting her from harassing, threatening, fighting, or interfering with his private life. He also sought custody of their children.
Despite being served with court summons, Safiyat failed to appear in court. In his testimony, Hamzat said, “My wife and I had a customary marriage. I paid N15,000 as her bride price when I went with my family to ask for her hand in marriage. She was handed over to my parents, who then gave her to me. Our marriage is blessed with three children.
However, my wife has ruined all the beautiful plans I had for our marriage from the start. After moving into my house, she began displaying negative traits that I believe she hid during our courtship.
She is stubborn and determined to do whatever she wants, refusing to change her position on any issue. We argue frequently because she is never willing to be submissive to me.
Safiyat lacks manners and often shouts at me in front of our family members and neighbors. I reported her behavior to her mother, but to my surprise, she saw nothing wrong with what her daughter was doing. I later discovered that my mother-in-law was encouraging my wife to challenge me at home, misguiding her.
Their plan was to make me a fool, but they failed. My lord, both my wife and her mother, when realizing how unyielding I was, attempted to cast a spell on me using diabolic means. My wife washed her private parts and used the water to cook my food. Unfortunately for her, her efforts to control me failed.
My wife has made our home unbearable for me. She is a thief and a bad influence on our children. She has almost ruined my business by regularly stealing the money meant to run it. She also ransacks my room and steals my valuables. Safiyat refuses to admit her wrongdoings, no matter the situation.
I have had enough of her atrocities. I request this honorable court to end our relationship and grant me custody of our children. I also ask for an order preventing her from harassing, threatening, fighting, or interfering with my private life.”
The court president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case to April 8.
