- Primary School winner, Baruwa Khafid of Baptist Day Primary School, Agbowa, will represent Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA at the state finals.
- Chairman Wale Raji Anomo pledged sustained investment in education and immediate support for Sofiat’s family.
Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Monday, September 29, 2025, hosted the preliminaries of the Annual Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, showcasing academic brilliance and community pride at the Council Secretariat Multipurpose Hall.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the contest brought together bright pupils and students from across the LCDA, producing remarkable performances in both the primary and secondary school categories.
The highlight of the event was the victory of Sofiat Mohammed, a JSS3 student of Community Junior Academy, Odo-Ayandelu, who clinched first place in the Secondary School category.
Sofiat, who in 2022 won the Primary School category at both LCDA and state levels, was previously awarded a ₦250,000 scholarship by the Executive Chairman, Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo.
Her latest triumph earned her the symbolic role of One-Day Chairman, during which she appealed for more support for her education and employment for her mother — requests the Chairman granted immediately.
In the Primary School category, Baruwa Khafid of Baptist Day Primary School, Agbowa, secured first place, followed by Jude Faith of the same school in second place, and Adeleke Emmanuel of RCM Primary School, Ketu, in third.
In the Secondary School category, Sofiat was followed by Okunade Paul and Ajube Esther, both of Community Senior Academy, Odo-Ayandelu, in second and third place respectively.

The First Lady of the LCDA, Dr. Nofisat Olajumoke Anomo, represented by Mrs. Somoye, Head of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), encouraged the participants to remain disciplined and focused.
“Education is the surest path to success. Stay committed, and you will achieve greatness,” she said.
Executive Chairman, Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, joined by Council Manager Mr. Sunday Awobajo and Council Treasurer Mr. Lawal Adeshina, commended the students and their teachers. “We are proud of the talent displayed today.
Education remains the bedrock of our LCDA’s future, and my administration will continue to invest in it. If our representatives return as state champions, we will celebrate them in a special way,” he assured.
The event was attended by officials from the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), council management staff, teachers from participating schools, and stakeholders.
The warm reception for the winners and the immediate support extended to Sofiat’s family reinforced the day’s theme: talent nurtured with compassion yields lasting community impact.
