He assured citizens that the reforms would be strengthened and expanded in 2026 to deliver tangible benefits for households, businesses and investors.
Tinubu stated that moderating inflation and easing interest rates are expected to create greater fiscal space for productive investments, particularly in infrastructure and human capital development, which he said are essential for sustainable growth and job creation.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the problem of multiple taxation across federal, state and local government levels, describing it as a major obstacle to productivity and consumer welfare. He commended states that have aligned with the national tax harmonisation drive by adopting unified tax laws to reduce the burden of multiple taxes, levies and fees on citizens and businesses.

“Our focus in 2026 is to consolidate the gains already made and build a resilient, sustainable, inclusive and growth-driven economy,” Tinubu said. He added that the ongoing tax reforms are designed to establish a fair and competitive fiscal framework capable of funding infrastructure and social investments that promote shared prosperity.
Citing improved macroeconomic indicators such as stronger GDP growth, improved exchange-rate stability, rising foreign reserves and renewed investor confidence, the President expressed optimism that Nigeria remains firmly on the path to long-term economic stability and inclusive development.
He urged Nigerians to remain united and supportive, stressing that nation-building is a collective responsibility, while wishing citizens a peaceful, productive and prosperous New Year.
