Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the best candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, citing his experience, performance and commitment to national development, Eko Hot Blog reports.

Speaking in Lagos over the weekend, Hamzat said Tinubu has fulfilled key campaign promises made during the 2023 election and has demonstrated the courage and leadership required to steer the country through difficult reforms.

According to him, none of the president’s expected challengers possesses the experience, competence or track record to rival Tinubu.

The deputy governor also expressed confidence that the APC would retain Lagos State in the 2027 governorship election, saying the party continues to enjoy the trust and support of residents because of its commitment to their welfare.

Hamzat stressed that greater progress in Lagos would require stronger organisation, discipline and adherence to established rules and standards.

He said activities in government must be guided by compliance, accountability and a shared commitment to the common good.

The APC governorship candidate urged Lagosians to embrace positive attitudinal change, promising to sustain people-focused policies and progressive programmes if elected governor.

Highlighting the achievements of the Tinubu administration, Hamzat praised the president for implementing the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that the policy was one of the major promises made by leading presidential candidates during the 2023 election.

He criticised opposition figures for, in his words, attempting to distort facts surrounding the implementation of the policy, insisting that Tinubu acted in line with his campaign commitments.

Hamzat also questioned the capacity of the president’s potential opponents, arguing that politicians who struggled to manage internal crises within their own parties should not be entrusted with leading the country.

Comparing Tinubu’s record as former governor of Lagos with that of other political leaders, he said the president transformed the state by turning challenges into opportunities through strategic planning and effective governance.

He cited the development of Eko Atlantic City as an example of Tinubu’s vision, recalling that while previous administrations relied mainly on sand filling to address coastal erosion, Tinubu initiated a long-term engineering solution that has become a globally recognised project.

Hamzat also defended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, dismissing criticism from Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He described opposition to the project as misplaced, arguing that the highway would significantly reduce travel time between Lagos and Calabar while stimulating economic activities along the corridor through job creation and increased commercial opportunities.

Reaffirming the APC’s confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, Hamzat said the party would continue to prioritise the welfare of Lagos residents through faithful implementation of the state’s development master plan.

He added that his experience in government has prepared him for the responsibilities of leading Lagos, describing the governor’s role as coordinating experts across ministries to ensure policies and projects improve the lives of ordinary residents.
