INSO provides registered NGOs with free services such as real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety data and mapping, crisis management support, staff training, and orientations.

Role Overview
The Deputy Safety Advisor (DSA) collaborates with the Safety Advisor (SA) to support NGOs in understanding security risks and mitigating threats in the region. The DSA is responsible for gathering and analyzing safety-related information, reporting on security developments, and providing crisis management support. Additionally, the role involves networking with stakeholders and ensuring that INSO services meet the evolving needs of NGO partners. The DSA will also manage the local information network and oversee the team in the SA’s absence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the SA in representing INSO and delivering essential services to NGOs.
- Coordinate the national team and lead service delivery when the SA is unavailable.
- Gather, verify, and maintain accurate incident records related to NGO safety.
- Support and verify incident database entries, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Assist in preparing regular reports, area assessments, and security briefings.
- Analyze security trends and create relevant data visualizations and reports.
- Conduct field assessments, engage with stakeholders, and participate in coordination meetings.
- Work closely with NGO partners in the field to provide real-time safety insights.
- Identify, recruit, and train field monitors to strengthen information collection.
- Translate communications between local languages and English where necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Conflict Studies, Political Science, International Affairs, Security Studies, or a related field.
- Proficiency in English and at least one local language with strong writing skills.
- Willingness to travel frequently within the region.
- Understanding of NGO safety practices and risk management.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with NGO partners.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Capacity to work with or learn data analytics tools.
Preferred:
- At least two years of experience in NGO security or project management.
- Experience in team leadership, drafting reports, and crisis management.
- Ability to work independently and stay engaged in a dynamic security environment.

Terms & Conditions
This is a full-time position based in Katsina, with potential travel within Nigeria. The role reports directly to the Safety Advisor for the Northwest region.
