Late U.S. President Jimmy Carter was posthumously awarded a Grammy on Sunday, marking his fourth career win in the Best Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Carter’s final project, Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration, a collection of his last Sunday school lessons in Plains, Georgia, earned the honor.
Released in August 2024, just months before his passing at 100 years old on December 29, 2024, the audiobook shared his messages of love, forgiveness, and reflections on the afterlife. It also featured contributions from artists like Darius Rucker, Jon Batiste, and LeAnn Rimes.

At the pre-gala ceremony in Los Angeles, Jason Carter, the late president’s grandson, accepted the Grammy on behalf of the Carter family. “Having his words captured in this way for my family and for the world is truly remarkable,” he said, as the audience gave a standing ovation in tribute to the late president.
Carter’s Grammy Legacy
This posthumous win adds to Carter’s impressive Grammy career, which includes three previous victories in the Best Spoken Word Album category for:
- Faith – A Journey for All (2019)
- A Full Life: Reflections at 90 (2016)
- Our Endangered Values: America’s Moral Crisis (2007)
In total, Carter received 10 Grammy nominations over his lifetime.

Other nominees for the 2025 Grammy Award in the same category included Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton, and George Clinton.
Carter, the 39th U.S. president, taught Sunday school for 50 years at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, leading multiple sessions each month. His posthumous win places him ahead of fellow former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, both of whom have won two Grammy Awards.
