Former President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly in talks with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of consultations over a possible return to the presidential race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources within the ADC confirmed that Jonathan has recently intensified his political engagements, fueling speculations that he may contest the 2027 election against President Bola Tinubu.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Jonathan, who has maintained a relatively quiet political profile since leaving office in 2015, met with Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Abuja on September 12. He also held discussions with ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and other coalition leaders on September 25. However, he has not yet made any official statement regarding his political plans.
A top member of the ADC leadership, who spoke anonymously to The Punch, revealed that the former president is in active consideration of using the ADC platform for his political comeback.
“The truth is, Jonathan is a very important and patriotic Nigerian, and he will be a great asset to our party,” the source said. “Our party has already established communication with him. As you may know, the National Chairman and some members of the ADC have met with him several times.”
The source disclosed that discussions with Jonathan centered on the 2027 elections and Nigeria’s leadership future, adding that the ADC sees itself as a credible alternative platform for Nigerians dissatisfied with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Another insider within the party hinted that Jonathan’s decision might depend on whether the ADC would offer him an automatic presidential ticket without contest from other prominent politicians like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
He said, “Yes, the former president met with some leaders of our party. The discussions were about leadership in the country, the economy, security challenges, and how the APC government has weakened democratic institutions.
“Jonathan is considering the ADC platform, and from what I’ve gathered, if the party grants him the presidential ticket without contest, he may decide to run on our platform. Even though he hasn’t come out publicly to declare, the discussions so far suggest that he’s open to the idea.”
The source added that the ADC is hopeful of reaching a consensus that could unite major opposition figures under one platform before the 2027 general elections.

“As Nigerians wait for Jonathan to make his declaration, we in the ADC are also waiting, but the signs are encouraging,” he said.
