EKO HOT BLOG reports that their visit formed part of a solemn diplomatic gathering as arrangements continue for the repatriation and state burial of the former Nigerian leader. Buhari, 82, died at 4:30 PM on Sunday following complications from a prolonged illness at a private hospital in London.
Vice President Shettima is currently in the United Kingdom on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to oversee logistical preparations and accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.
Confirming the meeting, Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communication, stated that both former leaders visited as part of the tributes being paid to Buhari.
“The Vice President received both leaders as part of the tributes being paid to the late former president,” Nkwocha said in a statement titled ‘Jonathan, Akufo-Addo Visit VP Shettima in London, Pay Tribute to Buhari’.
President Tinubu has declared seven days of national mourning to honour Buhari’s legacy, directing that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country and in Nigerian missions abroad.
Meanwhile, Buhari’s remains are scheduled to arrive in Katsina on Tuesday, July 15, ahead of a state funeral. The former president will be buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites and state protocols.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s Head of State between 1983 and 1985, and later as a two-term elected president from 2015 to 2023.
