Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in observance of the Eid el Kabir celebration.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, through a statement released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the holiday declaration reflects the government’s recognition of the religious importance of the festival for Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.
Tunji Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a period that symbolises sacrifice, obedience to God and compassion toward humanity.

He encouraged Nigerians to use the period for prayers and reflection, particularly for the peace, security and progress of the country.
The minister also urged citizens to promote unity, peaceful coexistence and brotherhood during the celebration.
The Federal Government further extended best wishes to Muslims nationwide for a peaceful and joyful Eid el Kabir celebration.
