The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of Smiley Kids Montessori in the Heritage Place Estate, Sangotedo, following the tragic death of a 2-year-old pupil, Rapheala Ogbodo, who drowned in the school’s swimming pool.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Kayode Sutton, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, confirmed the closure, stating that it was done to enable a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

While expressing condolences to the bereaved family, the government reaffirmed its commitment to preventing such tragedies from recurring in the state.
The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, emphasized the need for school owners and caregivers to adhere to safety regulations to avoid accidents.
He assured the public that further details would be provided once the investigation is complete.
