A Kano State High Court has granted bail to suspected drug trafficker Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu, on condition that a serving commissioner stand as surety.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Kano State Commissioner for Transport, Ibrahim Namadi, fulfilled the onerous requirement by swearing an affidavit and depositing the necessary funds on behalf of the defendant.

Danwawu, arraigned under Charge No. FHC/KN/CR/93/2025, was granted bail of ₦3 million with one surety of equal amount on July 17, 2025.
The court order specified that the surety “must be a serving Commissioner and a member of the Kano State Executive Council.”
Commissioner Namadi then deposited ₦5 million with the Deputy Chief Registrar to be held in an interest‑yielding account.

In an affidavit of means sworn on July 18, Namadi declared his position and undertook to produce Danwawu at every court appearance.
“I undertake to abide by the bail conditions and promise to produce the defendant on adjournment dates until the case is finally disposed of,” he swore.
Namadi’s formal application to the court reiterated his commitment to all bail terms and his duty to ensure Danwawu’s attendance.
A ‘Notification for Fulfilment of Bail Conditions’ filing confirmed submission of the surety application, affidavit of means, deposit receipt and passport photographs.
The court registrar certified that all conditions had been duly satisfied and submitted the documentation for judicial approval.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Kano command had arrested Danwawu during a coordinated operation with the Nigeria Police Force earlier this year.
NDLEA spokesperson Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari said follow‑up raids recovered additional illicit substances linked to the suspect’s network.
His arraignment, the agency noted, represents a major victory in the ongoing battle against drug‑related crimes in Kano State.
Danwawu remains remanded in a correctional facility pending the next adjourned date.
