Eko Hot Blog reports that the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) in Kogi State has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike from September 9, 2023, if the state government does not meet their demands.

The doctors, who are members of the Kogi State Specialist Hospital (KSSH), Lokoja, gave the ultimatum in a statement issued on Saturday.

The statement was signed by the ARD KSSH’s President, Dr Ameh Friday; and Secretary General, Dr Peter Samuel.

The doctors said they had been on strike for two days in August, but suspended it to give the state government time to address their demands.

However, they said the government has not met any of their demands, which include:

  • Upward review of CONMESS 2014 to CONMESS 2023
  • Approval of Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023
  • Review of hazard allowance as released by the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission, 22nd December, 2021
  • Implementation and cash backing of promotion as well as the statutory Annual Increments with payment of arrears of both annual increments and promotion

The doctors said the morale and psyche of their members in the KSSH is at an all-time low, and that the hospital working environment has worsened the situation.

They said they will hold a congress meeting in seven days to take a decision on their demands.
