Students of the Kogi State Polytechnic went on rampage on Wednesday as an unidentified male student hit by a hit-and- run driver reportedly died on Tuesday in the hospital where he was rushed to.
Eyewitnesses told Punch on Wednesday that the students mobilised immediately the news of the death of the victim filtered into the Felele, Lokoja campus of the institution, and barricaded the Abuja-Lokoja highway, singing solidarity songs and mourning the dead colleague.
The public relations officer of the institution, Mrs Uredo Omale, who confirmed the incident, however, said the situation was under control and normalcy had returned to the campus.
She said efforts are on to identify the student involved and promised to get back with detailed information after speaking with the institutions chief security officer.
The state police command, while confirming the incident, said the Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Ede, had sent officers to the campus.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP William Aya, said, “Yes, the command is aware of the accident and death. Efforts are on to restore normalcy on the campus.
