EKO HOT BLOG reports that Former presidential aide and APC chieftain, Bashir Ahmad, fueled the speculation on Thursday night via a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter). Reacting to Shettima’s comment at a public event, Ahmad described it as a “strong signal” that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) leader may be edging toward a return to the APC.
“If nothing else, Vice President Shettima referring to Senator Kwankwaso as ‘NNPP-APC’ is a strong signal that the NNPP leader and his teeming supporters are on the verge of joining our great party, the APC,” Ahmad posted.
Ahmad, who hails from Kano and remains a key figure within the APC, expressed optimism that such a political move would strengthen unity in Kano State. He said the merger could help end long-standing political divisions and contribute to the state’s progress and stability.
“This will help to have a politically united Kano, something long desired for the progress and stability of our state,” he added.

Senator Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence and one of northern Nigeria’s most influential political figures, contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP platform. He has remained a prominent voice in the opposition, with strong grassroots support, particularly in Kano.
While no official statement has been made by Kwankwaso or the NNPP, the speculation is gaining traction among political observers and supporters.
