Kyiv Left Out as US, Russian Diplomats Meet for Ukraine War Talks

- U.S. and Russian diplomats meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss Ukraine war, excluding Kyiv.
- President Zelenskyy rejects any outcome from talks, as European allies express concerns.
- Meeting aims to improve U.S.-Russia ties and pave the way for a Trump-Putin summit.
Top diplomats from Russia and the United States met in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday to discuss improving bilateral ties and exploring a potential negotiated end to the war in Ukraine—a significant shift in American foreign policy under President Donald Trump.
Notably, no Ukrainian officials were present at the meeting, despite Ukraine’s ongoing struggle against superior Russian forces in a slow but steady battlefield retreat.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected any potential agreements from the talks, emphasising that Kyiv would not accept decisions made without its involvement. European allies have also voiced concerns about being sidelined in the discussions.
Beyond the war, the high-level meeting, attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and other senior officials, aimed to reset relations between the two nations, which have hit their lowest point in decades.
