The Labour Party has inaugurated an eight-member screening committee to oversee the verification of aspirants contesting elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the development was announced in a public notice jointly signed on Friday in Abuja by the party’s National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma.

According to the party, the committee was constituted in line with provisions of the Labour Party constitution and guidelines governing the 2026 primary elections.
Nenadi Usman will chair the panel, while other members include Oluchi Okpara, Mohammed Salisu, Martina Umana, Deborah Yusuf, Chibuzo Okereke and Dr Olu Ayewo. Obioma will serve as the committee’s secretary.
The party explained that the panel would handle the screening of aspirants seeking presidential, governorship and National Assembly tickets ahead of the party primaries.

It added that the committee would verify credentials submitted by aspirants and ensure all candidates comply with the Labour Party constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and regulations issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Under the party’s timetable, governorship and House of Assembly aspirants are scheduled to undergo screening on May 20, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will appear before the panel on May 22.
