Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, has urged young students, particularly boys, to view education as a crucial tool for growth and development rather than dismissing it as a scam.

Ekohotblog gathers that he emphasized that education provides knowledge and wisdom, which can ultimately lead to success and wealth.

Dr. Hamzat made this statement during a courtesy visit to his office by nearly 200 students from various schools and correctional centres across the state.

The visit was part of the Lagos Boy Child Initiative organized by the Office of the First Lady, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

Addressing the students, the Deputy Governor debunked the misconception that education guarantees instant riches.

“There is an erroneous ongoing saying dubbing education as a scam, which many of you are repeating while dropping out of school.

The promise of education is not riches; it only promises knowledge and wisdom, which can translate to riches. So, anyone who says education is a scam is a liar.

I want you to recognise the value of education in broadening your horizons and transforming your life,” Dr. Hamzat declared.

He further stressed that education is not merely about literacy but also about acquiring life skills and offering solutions to societal needs.

“Experience has shown education to be a pathway to success, provided one takes it seriously. Education enhances talent, making it more valuable,” he added.

The Deputy Governor also highlighted the importance of choosing the right company and avoiding negative influences.

“What leads to the failure of dreams is bad company. Cultism is rampant among youths and is the quickest route to destruction and lost dreams,” he warned.

Dr. Hamzat reassured the students that the Lagos State Government is committed to supporting their education beyond secondary school.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to ensure that every boy child has access to quality education under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.

He praised the efforts of the First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, in championing boy-child advocacy, stating, “We must show our gratitude to her by being serious and focused.

I urge you to treasure the experience and open your minds to the various presentations and ideas that will be shared with you.”

Earlier, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, explained that the Lagos Boy Child Initiative aims to groom boys for purposeful living while building a network of future leaders.

She noted that over 400 boys had been directly transformed through the initiative’s camping exercises in the past two years.

“Through the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI), we have been able to showcase talents, which has led to some of our participants gaining admission into tertiary institutions.

Currently, some boys are under the LBCI scholarship up to the tertiary level of education,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu revealed.

She added that this year’s programme includes a three-day residential workshop at Agbowa, where the boys would receive training from seasoned professionals.

“Our boys will be trained in culinary skills as a life skill in readiness for the future, especially as Lagos moves towards food tourism,” she disclosed.

Dr. Hamzat urged the students to stay focused on their dreams, avoid bad influences, and resist cultism and substance abuse.

He also encouraged them to remain steadfast in their faith, saying, “Allah hears prayers and provides help. He makes our paths straight.

Remember, heaven helps those who help themselves. Be fervent in your prayers.”

The visit to the Deputy Governor’s office was aimed at promoting collaboration and allowing the boys to learn from his wealth of experience as a distinguished technocrat and politician.
