Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, June 23, officially inaugurated the Lagos State Market Advisory Council (LASMAC), encouraging its members to enhance market operations, improve security, promote fair trade, and foster a business-friendly environment.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during the swearing-in ceremony of the 21-member council at Lagos House, Ikeja, the governor urged the newly appointed members to be proactive, transparent, and inclusive in their approach. The council is chaired by the Iyaloja General, Chief Mrs. Folashade Tinubu Ojo.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also advised traders to steer clear of dishonest practices and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting them through strategic policies, improved infrastructure, and initiatives aimed at building capacity. He emphasized that the council will play a key role in managing and developing markets, which are central to both the state’s economy and community life.
“Our markets are more than just places to buy and sell; they are lively hubs of culture, innovation, and social connection. They support the livelihoods of millions of Lagosians and play a vital role in the economic growth of the state. With this in mind, this administration made it a priority to focus on the development, security, and sustainability of our markets.

Sanwo-Olu expressed the hope to see markets in the state develop as true reflections of the vibrant, resilient, and entrepreneurial spirit of Lagos.”
The State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Robert, described the inauguration as a major step by the Sanwo-Olu administration toward driving economic growth and advancing market development across Lagos.
In her vote of assurance, Chief Tinubu Ojo thanked the state government for its continued support of traders and pledged that the council would effectively fulfill its role as a bridge between the government and the trading community.
