Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting brought together community leaders, parents, health workers, and key stakeholders to discuss the planned statewide integration of the MR vaccine into routine immunization and the forthcoming vaccination campaign across Lagos State.
Addressing participants, Dr. Adeleke highlighted the serious health risks associated with measles and rubella, describing them as highly contagious diseases capable of causing severe complications in children and unborn babies.
She stressed the need for parents and guardians to take advantage of the free vaccination services provided by the government.
“Measles and rubella are dangerous but preventable diseases.
The MR vaccine is safe, effective, and will be administered free of charge at all government health facilities. Parents must ensure their children are protected,” she said.
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Issa Maruf Olayinka, reaffirmed the council’s full support for the sensitization and immunization campaign.
He emphasized that protecting children’s health remains a top priority of the local government.
“The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government is fully committed to this life-saving initiative, as we urge all parents, guardians, community leaders, and residents to bring their children aged 9 months to 14 years to designated vaccination points across our local government area.
This campaign is free, safe, and essential for protecting our children’s future and building a healthier community,” the statement read.
Participants were also informed that the Lagos State Government’s Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign is scheduled to run from January 20 to January 31, 2026, with mop-up activities to follow in areas with low coverage.
The sensitization session featured technical presentations by the Medical Officer of Health, Ibeju-Lekki, Dr. (Mrs.) Agboola, the Health Education Officer, Mrs. Ekemin Adebukola, and Dr. Adenike, who provided detailed explanations on the vaccine schedule, administration process, and long-term benefits.
