The Lagos State Government has dramatically increased its public health campaign to curb the growing problem of medical quackery, urging residents to avoid unlicensed clinics and unqualified practitioners.
Eko Hot Blog reports that during a sensitisation campaign and town hall meeting in Mushin, the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) asked citizens to actively identify and report dangerous fake medical facilities across the state.

The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abiola Idowu, emphasized that HEFAMAA’s core mandate is to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare and protect the health of Lagosians.
Residents learned how to identify legitimate, state-approved health centers: they must clearly display the HEFAMAA logo, a registration certificate, and a unique QR code. Patients can scan this code to instantly verify a facility’s authenticity and send real-time feedback.

Dr. Idowu stressed the public must report any facility—public or private—that operates without a license, employs unqualified staff, or maintains poor hygiene.
HEFAMAA officials also educated residents that only hospitals have approval for 24-hour services, while clinics have limited licensing. They conduct biannual inspections to enforce compliance in staffing, hygiene, and equipment.
Mushin Local Government Chairman Tunbosun Haruna Aruwe praised HEFAMAA for bringing the campaign directly to the community, helping residents identify safe hospitals.
