Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike stated on Wednesday that the mass defection of PDP governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) proves his past support for President Bola Tinubu correct.
Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking at the flag-off of a road construction project in Abuja, Wike noted that many of these governors had previously criticized him for “destabilizing the PDP” and working for the APC.

Wike suggested they should now commend him for paving the way for their own switch to the ruling party.

Wike’s comments follow the recent exits of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah and, on Wednesday, Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri, who left the PDP along with 19 State House of Assembly members.
This means the PDP has lost four governors recently, dropping their total count from 11 to eight.
The Minister argued that the governors no longer have any excuse not to support Tinubu, saying the President’s “decisive leadership” has ensured every state now has enough resources to pay salaries and undertake credible projects.

Wike, a former governor himself, recalled having to “run around banks” for funds just to cover salaries. He contrasted this with the current situation, saying Tinubu has made it possible for states to have surplus money.
He called the decision to support the Tinubu-led administration “worthwhile,” emphasizing that the country needs this kind of visionary, purposeful leadership.
