- Ibadan Convention Was PDP’s Political Funeral – Lagos APC
- Oladejo argued that the gathering was a poorly scripted show of confusion and desperation
- Oladejo said the PDP’s failure to address leadership rot, ideological emptiness and years of electoral defeats confirmed its terminal decline
Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a party on the brink of irrelevance, following its factional National Convention held over the weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement on Sunday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, said the convention, which was expected to signal a revival for the opposition party, instead exposed the PDP’s internal disarray and declining national influence.

Oladejo argued that the gathering was a poorly scripted show of confusion and desperation, calling it an embarrassment to the political class and a stark indication of the party’s waning relevance.
He highlighted that many prominent PDP figures, including incumbent governors, boycotted the convention, a move he said spoke louder than any communique or resolution.
“When a house is collapsing, even its architects flee,” Oladejo stated, noting that delegates from at least thirteen states opted out of the event. He added that the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to monitor the convention further emphasized its lack of legitimacy.

Describing the convention as a dignified farewell to a political structure that has outlived its usefulness, Oladejo said the PDP’s failure to address leadership rot, ideological emptiness and years of electoral defeats confirmed its terminal decline.
He continued, “What should have symbolized renewal instead confirmed that the party is fast approaching its political expiration date. The PDP has now become a danger to our nascent democracy, not because it is strong, but because it has failed to provide a vibrant and constructive opposition.”
Oladejo also observed that as the APC consolidates reforms, strengthens institutions and delivers governance under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the PDP appears preoccupied with conducting the funeral rites of its own relevance.
“The PDP today is no longer a national institution. It has become a refuge for internally displaced politicians, career defectors and political daydreamers struggling for survival,” he said.
He challenged the opposition, “Was this truly a convention, or the formal burial of a fading political empire? Whatever the answer, Nigerians have made their choice, progress under the APC, not nostalgia under a PDP drifting toward oblivion.”
