Lagos State Government Empowers Youths Through Fish Farming Training in Epe

- The Lagos State Government, through CERUD, trains youths in fish farming to promote self-employment and economic growth.

Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated its commitment to youth empowerment as a strategy to combat unemployment, reduce crime, and drive socio-economic development in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda.
Ekohotblog reports that at a fish farming Empowerment programme organized by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) in Igbodu, Epe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, encouraged participants to take advantage of the state’s various developmental initiatives.

Dr. Agbaje highlighted the importance of skill acquisition in securing economic independence, stressing that the state government remains dedicated to equipping young people with profitable skills.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu understands that empowering young people is key to building a stronger economy.
This training is part of our broader efforts to provide viable employment opportunities and promote agribusiness,” he said.
He assured the participants that the government would continue to introduce more training programs to uplift youths and create sustainable businesses.
Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding capacity-building programs, particularly in rural communities.
“With more of these initiatives, we will not only reduce rural-urban migration but also create local job opportunities and strengthen food production in Lagos State,” she said.
Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, Director of CERUD, described the training as a game-changer for young entrepreneurs.
“Fish farming is a lucrative business when done properly. This training provides the knowledge and tools needed to succeed.
With Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approval, CERUD will introduce additional programs to further improve the socio-economic conditions of young people in Lagos,” he stated.
The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos Chapter, Dr. Femi Oke, commended the state government for its continuous support of farmers.

He, however, urged the government to extend similar interventions to crop production and other agricultural sectors.
“While fish farming is a vital aspect of agriculture, we also need more support in crop production to enhance food security in Lagos State.”
