A statement posted on the Lagos State Government’s official X account on Thursday said the visit provided LSMTL experts with firsthand insight into the engineering innovations and standards being applied on-site.
LSMTL General Manager, Engr. Olayinka Abdul represented by the Director of Business Development Unit 1, Mrs. Lara Awosanya said the tour was part of the agency’s quality assurance mandate aimed at ensuring full compliance with Lagos State building regulations and globally recognised construction practices.
Awosanya reaffirmed that the agency is committed to promoting the use of certified, quality-tested materials to guarantee structural integrity, public safety and sustainable development.

“Our mission at LSMTL is fundamental to the safety and longevity of every structure in Lagos State,” she said. “Visiting a project like Eko Atlantic City is not only inspiring but essential. We are here to partner, support and ensure that materials used in constructing this city of the future meet and exceed the highest international standards.”
She added that the inspection tour served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration between the agency and developers working to shape Lagos’s infrastructural future.
The LSMTL delegation was received by Mrs. Seliat Rahman, General Manager of Eko Atlantic City Management Limited. Discussions centred on materials certification processes, quality assurance protocols and the shared commitment to building a resilient, world-class metropolis.
Rahman emphasised the project’s dedication to excellence.
“At Eko Atlantic City, we are building a model of sustainable urban development for Africa and the world. Quality and safety remain central to our vision. We see LSMTL not just as a regulator but as a strategic partner in ensuring that the legacy we build here stands the test of time and nature,” she said.
Eko Atlantic City is being constructed on roughly one million square metres of reclaimed land from the Atlantic Ocean. Its development spans multiple phases, including active construction zones, reclamation sites, land preparation areas and an on-site materials testing laboratory where the LSMTL team focused its assessments.
Further inspections are scheduled for the first half of 2026.
