Tragedy struck in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as two passengers lost their lives after a vehicle plunged into a river in the Amuloko area of the city.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the victims were recovered from Ariyo River in Ona Ara Local Government Area following a rescue operation conducted by officials of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency on Friday.

The accident involved a Toyota Avensis with no identifiable registration number. Reports indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and plunge into the river.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received a distress call and immediately deployed a rescue team to the scene.
According to him, firefighters arrived to find the vehicle completely submerged in the river and swiftly commenced rescue operations.
“On arrival, it was confirmed that the vehicle had swerved off the road and submerged in the river. The rescue team immediately commenced operations by applying all necessary rescue procedures and successfully recovered two casualties from the vehicle,” Akinwande said.

He disclosed that the bodies of the deceased were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force from Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters for further necessary action.
“The victims were handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police Force led by ASP Adesuwa Sesan from Ogbere Target Police Station, Ibadan, for further necessary action,” he added.
The identities of the deceased had not been released as of the time of filing this report, while authorities have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The incident has renewed concerns over road safety and the increasing number of accidents involving vehicles on major roads and bridges across Oyo State.
