The Lagos State Government has arrested 27 suspected hoodlums over the alleged vandalism of the newly constructed bridge linking Festac Town with Alakija.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspects were arrested during a late-night enforcement operation carried out by security and environmental enforcement personnel.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, describing the incident as a serious attack on public infrastructure.
Wahab said preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly removed important components of the bridge, including iron rods, steel reinforcements, cables and other materials needed to maintain its structural stability.
He warned that the alleged removal of the materials could endanger road users and undermine the government’s investment in the bridge.
“This criminal act poses a serious threat to public safety and undermines the government’s investment in critical infrastructure,” Wahab said.
According to the commissioner, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated midnight operation involving operatives of the Rapid Response Squad and the Kick Against Indiscipline task force.
“The operation led to the arrest of 27 suspected hoodlums, who will be prosecuted in accordance with the extant laws of Lagos State,” he said.
Wahab said the state government would continue to protect public infrastructure and sustain enforcement operations against vandals and other offenders.
He urged residents to support the government by reporting activities that could damage public facilities or threaten the safety of Lagosians.
“The Lagos State Government remains committed to protecting public infrastructure and will continue to take decisive action against individuals or groups engaged in acts of vandalism, environmental infractions and other criminal activities that threaten the safety and wellbeing of residents,” he added.
